Regal and Apple Original Films Partner to Provide BEING HEUMANN Screenings at Select Regal Theaters

Boxoffice Staff, Boxoffice Pro - October 16, 2026

"Based on true events, Being Heumann recounts the story of Judy Heumann (played by Ruth Madely), a young disabled woman who, alongside a scrappy coalition of outsiders, led the longest occupation of a federal building in American history in 1977, spontaneously seizing the government offices and refusing to leave until the bureaucrat in their way (Mark Ruffalo) took action. Bringing rebellion in all its forms to the hallowed halls, a movement’s accidental leaders struggled to find their path forward where none had ever been paved for them."

This is an announcement of special theater screenings of the Apple Original Films' new film about Judy Heumann, one of the leaders of the modern U.S. disability rights movement. Check to see if it's going to be shown in your area! And if you're still not sure what the flavor of the movie seems to be, check out the trailer for it, which was shared here a few Fridays ago.

Being Heumann - Dropped kerbs didn’t fall from the sky

Christiane Link, The Accessible Link - October 14, 2026

"If you truly want to understand the disability community, please don’t ignore the cultural and past of our community. Far too often, we forget this. We discuss ramps, door widths, wayfinding, and induction loops, but we rarely discuss the community’s cultural and historical foundations. We forget that today’s laws didn’t simply fall from the sky. Disabled people fought hard for them, especially in transport and aviation."

This is one of the more meaningful reviews of "Being Heumann" I have read so far. Admittedly I haven't read many reviews of the film yet, as it isn't due for general release until November. But this one reads as thorough and genuine. I've sometimes noticed something lacking in reviews of disability-themed movies and TV shows. We're so glad to see disability dealt with in mainstream culture at all, and even more psyched when actual disabled people are in the film, that we sort of forget to assess the production as art. Christine really likes the movie, and that shines through in her review.
