Voter Turnout and Voting Accessibility

Lisa Schur, Douglas Kruse, Rutgers-New Brunswick School of Management and Labor Relations

"If people with disabilities voted at the same rate as people without disabilities who have the same demographic characteristics, there would be about 20 million more voters."

Lisa Schur and Douglas Kruse's work on voting and people with disabilities is probably the best collection on the subject available. Here you will find detailed statistics on seven U.S. general and mid-term election cycles between 2009 and 2022. It hadn't been updated for 2024's election, but the information here is still incredibly useful, revealing, and even hopeful.

Election Deadlines

Vote America - September 23, 2026

"Vote by Nov 3, 2026. Fewer people vote in midterms, which makes your vote even more valuable. Don't sit on the sidelines."

Voting requirements and timetables differ in every U.S. state. Here you will find voter registration deadlines, absentee ballot request and return deadlines, and early voting dates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Register to vote / Check your registration

Vote.org

"Voting shouldn't be hard. We make sure it isn't. In just two minutes, you can be registered to vote in the next election."

Don't leave it to chance or habit. Check your registration status. Register. Make sure you're ready to vote. This is especially important this year as some states are aggressively "cleaning" their voter rolls of any records that they regard as anomalies, in error, or out of date.
