Hello!

It seems like we're all still trying to get a grip on everything that's extra bad or difficult for disabled people these days. These links might help put some of it in some sort of order so we stand a chance of dealing with it all.

The Trump Administration’s War on Disability

Mia Ives-Rublee and Casey Doherty, Center for American Progress - July 28, 2025

"From executive orders intended to roll back civil rights protections1 to legislation that cuts key services and support,2 the disability community has faced structural violence in the form of federal policy.3This all comes as the community continues to suffer severe impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic that have resulted in further disablement, isolation, and death.4"

If you need more than just your gut feeling that the second Trump administration has been uniquely threatening and harmful for disabled Americans, this CAP article is a good place to get hard evidence. Here you can see well-documented descriptions of every threat and damage, both direct and indirect. Seeing it all laid out, organized, and footnoted this way makes it at the same time more dismaying, and more manageable somehow. From here we can all see what's hurting us the most, and how each of us can fight most effectively.

The Rising Cost of Access — and Who Pays for It

Sara Minkara, Curious Constructs - August 5, 2025

"This is what’s often called the disability tax: the extra time, money and emotional labor it takes to simply exist in a world not designed for us. And now, tariffs are compounding that cost — making it harder to afford the very tools we need to navigate a world that already excludes us."

This is an interesting and updated take on a familiar idea – recognizing that whatever else is hard about living with a disability, it's also expensive. And it seems to be getting more expensive still thanks to the Trump administration's tariff policies. It's an aspect of tariffs I hadn't thought of at all until reading this post.

Join Our Webinar: Your Right To Access for Immigrants with Disabilities

American Association of People with Disabilities - August 4, 2025

"UNSEEN and its partners are hosting “Your Right to Access: What You Need to Know as an Immigrant with a Disability,” a virtual session to review your rights as a disabled immigrant, family member, or ally upon encountering immigration enforcement authorities at home or work."

I'm registered for this Zoom meeting. I want to better understand how current deportation policies and ICE methods – which look horrific for everyone – are specifically affecting people with disabilities.
