8/29/25 - Friday Video Share: "What It’s Like Being Away From Your Wheelchair"

What It’s Like Being Away From Your Wheelchair

I really like this format of two disabled people talking and sharing stories for an extended period. It would be great to see more of this type of thing, and with different subject areas and tones. This one seems pretty resolutely personal and mostly "positive" in orientation, and produced by people who may not deal with as many social and economic barriers as a good share of other disabled folks. It would be interesting to also see more programs like this with two disabled people talking about more frustrating, ableist, scary things – like confronting discrimination and inaccessibility, dealing with humiliation and actual, physical threats, and tackling disability issues. I'm not suggesting that this program isn't good. It is good. That's why I'd like to see more of this format applied to a wider variety of disability perspectives and experiences.
Or, maybe there are a lot more out there already that I'm missing. If you know of some, please scroll to the bottom, click the word balloon icon, and share your favorite disability-themed audio and video podcasts in the comments.
And have a terrific weekend!
