8/23/26 - A Sunday evening update

"Smiley" face looking sad, with a thermometer in its mouth

Well, I got out of the hospital late Wednesday, not feeling close to 100%, but certainly 100% better than I felt when I went in with the worst abdominal cramps I can ever recall. Days later I was feeling a lot better, and my doctors and I agreed that I had improved and was ready to go home. We were wrong. By the next morning I was back in the ER, and admitted again by late Thursday. I’m not sure what to expect next. But the treatment options we are pursuing make sense to me, I am reasonably comfortable, and am being listened to and respected. I may even be improving, again.

I won’t be doing regular posts for a while longer. However, on Wednesday I do plan on posting the first of a new monthly feature for Disability Thinking Weekday: Monthly Q & A., beginning with Mother Jones reporter Julia Métraux. Julia’s disability journalism has been linked dozens of times here over the last couple of years, and Julia herself is a paid subscriber. So, she’s been the perfect choice for my first email interview. I hope you like it. Look for it Wednesday afternoon.

That’s about all for now, except to invite you to share your own “disabled and in the hospital” stories, if you feel comfortable with it. Send your thoughts, memories, and observations to: apulrang@icloud.com.

See you all Wednesday!
