8/22/25 - Friday Video Share: Life After Official Trailer

Life After Official Trailer
Together Films, Vimeo - July 2, 2025
Debates over "assisted suicide" or "medical aid in dying" are mostly dominated by two factions. There are the libertarians who see it and explain it as an issue of personal choice and civil rights. And then there are the religious opponents who cite scripture to say that suicide is wrong and that helping someone do it is murder. A lesser known but increasingly heard argument comes from disability communities, which argue that making assisted suicide legal is a danger to disabled people – and that in any case it is a tragic distraction from dealing with the dire economic conditions and lack of practical supports that so often push disabled people to consider assisted suicide. After so many years of people ignoring or forgetting this fundamentally secular argument against assisted suicide, it's finally starting to break through. It looks like this documentary may be a part of that process. It also seems like compelling viewing.
Have a nice weekend!
