## Good afternoon ...

It's a request day today. These three links are from readers who specifically asked for them to be shared here. I'm happy to do it.

Disability Debrief - October 1, 2026

> "Human rights are abstract things. Help us understand what they mean to you on a personal level. How is your life different because of disability rights? Show us how disability rights have played out, for better or worse, in your life, family, home or livelihood."

Peter Torres Fremlin of the *Disability Debrief* newsletter has an Invitation for disabled people all over the world to share their thoughts and experiences, in writing, with laws, principles, and practices of modern disability rights. ## [**2026 National Survey on Health and Disability**](https://ihdps.ku.edu/nshd-2026?ref=disability-thinking-weekday.ghost.io)

Institute for Health and Disability Policy Studies, The University of Kansas - October 1, 2026

> "We are looking for adults who live in the U.S. to take the [**2026 National Survey on Health and Disability (NSHD)**](https://kuhealthsurvey.org/?ref=disability-thinking-weekday.ghost.io) ... Do you have a physical, mental, emotional, or health condition? If you answered ‘yes,’ we want you to take our survey! ... We are conducting this research to better understand and document how getting needed health care services, how having certain types of health care and/or insurance coverage affects the life, health and participation in the community of people with disabilities ... Your shared knowledge and experiences will be used to develop resources, as well as policy and practice recommendations, to address issues that affect the health, employment, and lives of Americans with disabilities ... This survey is available online in English, Español, and American Sign Language, or over the phone."

This is an online survey focusing on health care and health insurance experiences of Americans with disabilities. Reliable data and feedback from actual disabled people is absolutely critical to planning disability policy and advocacy. It's also far too rare to have good data on what disabled people think, want, and need. And since the U.S. federal government seems poised to intentionally stop counting disability-related statistics, it becomes even more important for those of us who are disabled to proactively take every opportunity to be counted and heard.

## [Making Pinball Accessible for Everyone](https://wheelieoutthere.blogspot.com/2026/09/youtube-video-player.html?ref=disability-thinking-weekday.ghost.io)

John Mohler, Wheelie Out There - September 17, 2026

> "Who doesn't like playing some old-school pinball? ... The only trouble is pinball isn't accessible to everyone. But at The Game Preserve, with locations in Webster near NASA and up in Spring, all of their pinball machines, about 100 in all, are playable either in the standard way or with a handheld adapter called the Adaptive Flipper Control. If you are a wheelchair user, have the use of only one hand, or have trouble standing, you can play pinball right alongside everyone else."

Be honest now. How many of you skipped ahead to read this article first, and listen to its interview with the adaptive pinball device's inventor from Texas? With so much cold drizzle raining down and soaking into disability culture, how can any of us resist a story about accessible pinball?
