Good afternoon ...

I was sick again yesterday. Maybe it's the Fall weather change, but who knows. Luckily, it doesn't seem like a long term bout, so let's continue with some links I had set up for yesterday ...

Disgust, Horror, and “Elimination”: Trump and RFK Jr.’s Eugenicist Autism Conference

Julia Métraux, Mother Jones - September 23, 2025

"Meanwhile, the one federal body that does offer autistic input into Health and Human Services practices, the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, has not convened once under the Trump administration. The committee should have input on federal autism research and care funding, Robinson said—which Secretary Kennedy hasn’t made possible."

Autistic moms of kids on the spectrum are livid after Trump and RFK Jr blame Tylenol — and them

Eric Garcia, The Independent - September 29, 2025

"Lai fears the intense focus on Tylenol or causes will take away resources from assisting autistic people ... 'Autistic people need resources,' she said. 'Those of us with autistic kids worry about their futures in the world that is not not inclusive to recognize the importance of reasonable accommodations.'"

I am honestly curious about what RFK Jr., President Trump, and others involved in the administration's latest pronouncements about autism actually think about having autistic people involved in their efforts. Do they reject the idea as absurd because they view autism itself as far too debilitating to make autistic people's input meaningful? Maybe it's never even occurred to them to ask autistic people what they think. Or, it's possible that they just haven't gotten around to it yet, and they will soon announce some sort of handpicked group of autistic people who are friendly to the idea that autism is a horrible epidemic caused by vaccines, Tylenol, and whatever else they decide seems suspicious.

Crip News v.201

Kevin Gotkin, Crip News - September 22, 2025

"New works, other news, calls, and events"

With so much happening to disabled people in more decidedly political spaces, it's a good time to remember that disability culture continues. And as the Crip News newsletter always shows, disability art and expression is an essential component of disability politics, and vice versa.
