Gaelynn Lea: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

NPR Music - March 11, 2016

The other day, a friend sent me a text message with a link, letting me know that disabled musician and activist Gaelynn Lea had shared a link on her Facebook page to this recent Disability Thinking Weekday newsletter focused on the L.A. fires. I've never met Gaelynn in person, though we are connected in the most basic social media ways – and she is a subscriber here.

I don't work too hard at hunting social media "clout," or "street cred" in disability culture. But I'm not completely indifferent to those things. And I do appreciate the bit of a boost I think Gaelynn gave to this newsletter. And thinking about her music, I realized that I had never actually watched her "Tiny Desk Concert" video, which is still probably her most famous performance. I've watched it now, and of course it's amazing. The distinctive format I think works really well for Gaelynn and her music. So in case you haven't seen and heard her, here's a must-see video showing Gaelynn Lea at her best.

Have a terrific weekend!
